Schiller Middle School goes to Washington D.C.
Greetings! My name is Chris Rosselot, parent of an 8th-grade student at Pittsburgh Schiller Middle School. In partnership with school teachers, administrators and Scholastica Travel Inc., we planned a class trip to Washington D.C. on March 10-11th, 2023. The students have an exciting itinerary, including visits to the United States Holocaust Memorial and Museum, National Museum of African American History and Culture, and a tour of the U.S. Capitol!
These visits will allow participation in place-based education and enhance the students’ civic education. Exposure to these culturally significant institutions will have a lasting impact; helping shape and mold their interests as they continue their educational journey into adulthood.
From the beginning of the process, the planning committee has prioritized making this trip as inclusive and equitable as possible with the hope that all 85 students will attend. While some of our families can afford the $350.00 per student cost (which includes transportation, lodging, and food), we also understand the economic challenge this poses for some families. To address this, we established this fund from which students can draw to assist with covering costs. With an initial deposit of $100 per student due by October 30, 2022, time is of the essence.
Your generous donation will help remove any economic barriers and provide access for a student who otherwise may not be able to attend. We appreciate you helping us meet our initial $10,000 goal.
Thank you,
Chris
