Craig's love for his family and friends is exceptional but yet it takes moments like these to appreciate what a wonderful man he is and that we are truly blessed to have him in our lives. Craig Schick is a 51 year old Gulf War Navy Veteran that served his country proudly with 10 1/2 years of consecutive active duty service. Until his injury, he was a full-time engineer and builder with a thriving business. He was actively involved in several charity organizations; fulfilling wishes of children with cancer, building ADA compliant homes for the severely injured, and providing educational resources for children in the foster care system. Now he is unable to support the things he cares about the most, including providing for his family.
Craig has a complicated cervical spine injury. The majority of which is due to an Avulsion Fracture of the vertebrae that occurred during an Artificial Disc Replacement at the C6 level resulting in bone fragments against his spinal cord. He is completely disabled and in excruciating pain. Craig cannot move his neck, is losing use of both of his arms and is now bed ridden or in a wheelchair. It has been recommended by doctors for Craig to be taken to one of the research hospitals, USC or Scripps Mercy in Southern California. However, the majority of specialists Craig needs to see do not except his insurance nor will the VA refer him.
We are continuing this GoFundMe page to assist Craig in getting the help he needs. Our goal is to raise enough money for a Platinum Insurance plan or raise the money to cover the cost of the surgery ourselves. This would enable him to see the type of surgeons that he needs. We understand that many families are struggling at this time, and just ask that you please give as much as you can.
Thank you so much for your support. If you would like additional information, please contact us at [email redacted]
