Oliver Update: April 14, 2020Here is the background up to today. Once we arrived at Children’s on Tuesday morning at 2am they did a test for HUS, which came back positive. Basically his kidneys were shutting down so they started a once a day dialysis. After the second day of dialysis, he had a 10 minute seizure, which is a symptom of HUS. We were transported to the PICU where we have been ever since. Things continued to go downhill with seizures and kidneys not responding well. They put a breathing tube in and gave him 3 different medicines to help with seizures. They also started a continuous dialysis for his kidneys.
As of Saturday night, we had been seizure free they took off one of the continuous drips of seizure medicine on Sunday and started decreasing the other continuous one on Monday. We are hoping he stays seizure free while coming off of it. Once he is off the seizure control medicine, we are hoping to take his tube out and work from there.
He is waking up a bit here and there since the seizure medicine is also a sedative. He can respond to yes and no questions by nodding his head. We are so thankful to be where we are and to have the great staff taking care of him. Today will hopefully be another quiet day with small victories.
