Schaefer NICU and ICU medical bills.

Hi my name is Whitney Gandara, I’m Haley Schaefer’s sister. My sister and her family have been through so much in the last few weeks. Her family has no idea I’m putting this together but I know this would take a huge weight off their shoulders.

Here is the basic story:

Haley was a high risk pregnancy and at 34 weeks pregnant when she decided to get checked out at the hospital due lack of movement for her baby girl. Upon going to the hospital, they decided to monitor her and the baby. She began to have contractions. Haley wasn’t feeling super well and was diagnosed with the Flu while in the hospital. Tragically, after hours of laboring naturally, baby girls heart dropped, nurses rushed in and were able get her heart rate back up. This continued a few times and they decided to do a C-section. Baby Maisy was born on January 25, 2024. She was immediately taken to the NICU and Haley was kept from baby Maisy for 4 days due to her Flu diagnosis. After caring for Della’s sickness James came down with the flu and Haley was discharged unable to go home. Her wonderful in-laws took her in and transported her to pick Maisy up a few days later. The NICU and hospital bill are already a significant burden.

Fast forward to 1 month later, Haley was starting to feel under the weather. After what doctors diagnosed as a routine UTI, she started antibiotics. A few days later, she still didn’t feel right. She went to the ER and they triaged her immediately to the Trauma unit. After taking her blood pressure, she was 75/45 (your organs start failing at 75, guys) and rushed her to the ICU. They did 3 CT scans CAT scan and numerous tests. They couldn’t figure out the cause. She was a mystery. Her blood pressure was the biggest concern and they continued to test to find the issue. No luck. After 4 days in the ICU, numerous tests and a near-death experience, they diagnosed her with Acute Sepsis. Thankfully my sister was released on 3/3/2024.

She is home but still recovering. Medical bills are pretty substantial. If you feel led to help this sweet family I know they’d be so grateful. This amount would cover their max out of pocket for the year which has been more than met.

Anything can help, as her big sister, I thank you.
