Getting Tamara OMeara back on her feet-no ladders!

Donation protected
Monday, Dec 6, 2020, Tammy O'Meara woke up to her normal life as an active, cheerful, independent, travel enjoying, nature-loving, self-employed interior designer, living and working in the Bay Area. That afternoon, in an instant, her life changed forever. The ladder she was standing on tipped over, tossing her back 8 feet onto the cement driveway. She was already standing at 10 feet high. Completely paralyzed when she first came to, movement did fortunately return quickly, but the damage had been done. The MRIs taken because of the double vision and continued tingling in her extremities revealed bone spurs on her vertebrae intruding into the spinal column.

Fast forward to today: living on her own again, and determined to get back to a normal life. She's still in a neck brace from the surgery that fused 5 of her 7 neck vertebrae, and the double vision resulting from the cranial nerve paralysis is a significant impediment. Unable to drive or lift over a few pounds, she's  completely dependent on others to get around and help her with some of the most basic functions of day to day living. Doing this during a pandemic is additionally challenging. She's been unable to work as needed, and after a rough 2020, like so many others, 3 additional months (and counting) without income have been financially devastating. There's no disability or unemployment, and now the medical bills are landing. Over $12,500 not covered by insurance. This is in addition to the $6500 deductible. Her spirits are great most days, but the financial obligations are daunting. The monthly expenses remain, and there will be continued physical therapy to help her regain limited flexibility in her neck. She'll be lucky to drive by June, and projected recovery time is 2 years.

Our circle of friends have asked how they can assist. We also understand most people have and are still suffering themselves from the effects of the pandemic and shutdowns. Every dollar will help if you're in such a position. A modest goal of $1000 has been set. Reaching $20,000 would cover her medical expenses. $30,000 would cover continued living expenses for a couple more months and allow her the time to heal and recover properly, without having to rush back to full time hours before her body is ready. A share to your social networks with a personal appeal, on Nextdoor, or through email to your personal or business contacts would also help. Any contributions, shares, and of course, continued prayers are much appreciated!
