My name is Kristy and this is my foster kitty, Scar.

Scar was already well-known within his previous community as being the friendly street kitty all came to love and look forward to seeing. However, on this particular night leading into the early morning, continued concern floated the internet. Citizens expressed a need for him to be safe within a home as he had wandered too far and was encroaching on the industrial area of town. I took to the streets at 0130 and with the help of a wonderful couple, we successfully located him. By 2am, he was in my arms, by 0230 he had eaten, drank more water than his body weighed, and was purring whilst falling asleep on my lap.

I contacted RAWL, a non-profit no-kill shelter located in Rota, the next day. Yes! They would happily accept him, but I needed to make sure Scar had met the in-processing requirements of the shelter. Okay, no problem! Afterall, it was a small step towards his happily-ever-after.

I successfully updated Scar's vaccinations and obtained his updated European health passport. The appointment was scheduled; September 5th Scar would join RAWL. My heart was elated for Scar to find his forever family!

September 4th, 23 hours left until his big day, Scar was in an unfortunate accident. Tragically he suffered a significant fracture to his left hind leg. The fracture was "clean," but would require surgery or amputation. Being just over a year old, the prognosis for recovery and longevity with surgery was favored over amputation. Unfortunately, the surgery would best performed by a specialized trauma surgeon.

I am now humbling and graciously beseeching assistance in covering his surgical costs. For those who know me and are aware, I do all that I can for the abandoned, forgotten, abused, and injured animals. Unfortunately, the cost of this surgery was not anticipated.

Scar's journey is not yet over. Once he has recovered, Scar will be available for adoption with RAWL. And with a bit of humor to help off-set the heaviness of his situation, Scar will have a justified reason to bear his name onward as his little leg will be left with a permanent reminder of his resiliency and that love can overcome all.
