My name is Michael Thompson and I live in Houston, TX. Scarlett Willis is a dear friend and colleague in the Hoover, Alabama area. On Oct 6th 2021 a flash flood event hit the Hoover and surrounding areas ,and at least 2.5 feet of water entered Scarlett’s entire home. Scarlett is not located in a flood zone so her insurance company would not issue flood insurance ,and her homeowner’s insurance doesn’t cover rising water. This leaves Scarlett without assistance ,and must cover all damages and expenses out of pocket. As of 10/15/21 FEMA has not declared the flooding in Hoover, AL as a natural disaster, but fingers crossed that decision will be re-evaluated. The damage is extensive in that it destroyed all appliances (save an above counter microwave), furniture, flooring, and all household goods located below 2.5 ft. In addition, both of her vehicles in her garage were flooded and are pending evaluation by her auto insurance.

Being no stranger to Hurricanes and flooding, I know firsthand how devastating  water intrusion and the loss of all personal items can be. Scarlett has had to rent an apartment due to her home being uninhabitable, which has doubled her living expenses. I am hoping to raise money to assist her in the recovery process to help with the repair of her home, food supplies, clothing, furniture replacement/repair, repair/replacement of her vehicles, etc.
