ERADICATE MDS FOR SCARLETT DOOLEY
Donation protected
8/9/2023 This is a post I was hoping I'd never have to make. Unfortunately, Scarlett has developed Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) cancer caused from the chemotherapy that saved her life the first time around and will need a Bone Marrow Transplant. The doctor has told us the prognosis isn't a good one, 50% chance of survival this time around. She'll have a few intense rounds of chemo to prepare for a bone marrow transplant which will require numerous lengthy in-patient hospital stays. We're not sure what the future is going to look like for our family and we're all completely devastated. Please add her to all the prayer lists, good vibes, whatever you believe in. We're going to need a miracle for our brave warrior, but we know she's going to fight with everything she's got. She's fearless and always has been. When Alex had to break the news to her, she said with confidence, "I'm going to beat cancer again!" You've got this Scar!!! We're all cheering for you! ALL donations will go directly towards anything our brave warrior needs during this time. #SCARLETTSTRONG
11/1/2018 I wanted to update everyone on Scarlett's progress. She is on day 22 of induction to chemo treatment and her counts are looking good so her oncologist is letting her go home tomorrow to finish induction. On day 29 she will have another spinal and that will be a big day for her because it will determine how well her body has fought the leukemia. Thank you so much for your continued love and support of Scarlett and her amazing parents Gunnar and Alex.
On October 9, 2018 our family received the devastating news that our sweet Scarlett (my granddaughter) has leukemia. I am Alex's mom and Gunnar's mother-in-law. We will know the exact type later today or tomorrow and her treatment protocols will be discussed. The backstory... Scarlett has been a healthy baby, hitting all her milestones. She began taking some steps at a year old, however that didn't last long. Instead of continuing to walk she just stopped until it got to the point over the last several weeks that she refused to even stand. In addition, we were noticing some fatigue, loss of appetite, bruising (we knew she was slightly anemic because that was determined at her 1yr well baby check up. ) we took her to her pediatrician yesterday at 230pm, he sent us to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital for xrays on her legs and bloodwork. He called us within a few hours and told us we needed to go back to the hospital for more bloodwork. We were quickly given the news that she has leukemia. With the uncertainty of our lives over the next several months, Alex is going to have to quit her job to be able to be with Scarlett as the doctors have told them she'll be admitted to the hospital for the next several weeks to several months. Gunnar may end up needing to quit his job as well to be able to be with his little angel. A lot is up in the air right now with treatment outcomes, however we know that Alex and Gunnar will need to move out of their townhouse and back in with us due to financial constraints with her not being able to work. I will keep everyone updated as we learn more about our baby "Scar". I thank you so very much for the outpouring of love we've received and continue to receive. Please keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers.
