Scarlet’s TSW story

Hello my name is Kerry. I have set up this fundraiser for my cousins beautiful daughter Scarlet who is now 12.
Scarlet tragically lost sight in her left eye following a horrific withdrawal from topical steroids prescribed by her GP for mild eczema.
The condition, not widely known and disputed by some medical professionals, is called Topical steroid Withdrawal (TSW). Scarlet was diagnosed by USA-based Dr Rapaport. TSW is not yet taken seriously in the UK.
The steroids have caused cataracts in both eyes leaving a detached retina in her left which is now too scarred to be repaired.
Scarlet has been so brave after enduring months of pain. Before TSW Scarlet was awarded a scholarship. The Art school kindly offered to hold the course for a year however the injuries from TSW (burning skin, trauma from losing eyesight, hair loss) left Scarlet bed bound and she lost the scholarship she had worked so hard for.
We are raising money for Scarlet’s healing journey with private counselling & therapy. Access to specialised tutors that can give her the correct home education then progress to a specialist school. We need equipment to help her with ongoing health issues and surround her with art materials to achieve her dream again.
Scarlet's family would also like to donate to the charity ITSAN (International Topical Steroid Awareness Network) to help spread awareness and stop this preventable condition happening to other children. They want to send hampers for other children who are going through TSW so they do not suffer as Scarlet has.
