As you may know, our friend Scarlet Stever Current was diagnosed with a grade 3 Triple Negative Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Breast Cancer tumor in Dec. To fight this fast acting cancer, she is having double mastectomies on Feb 1, followed by about 6 months of aggressive chemotherapy starting mid-march. (It may also require radiation and additional surgeries which will be determined in the coming months.)
There are huge costs associated with battling cancer. Even though she has insurance, her maximum out of pocket doesn't apply to pharmacy and may not cover all of her chemo. Initial KNOWN cost estimates for medical treatment alone are approximately $15,000; and doesn’t cover future uncovered medical care, travel expenses, medical supplies, the cost of her or Cory’s time off or other unknowns.
She will likely be unable to work this events season as she will be undergoing chemotherapy treatments. She is unable to collect short term disability, adding the tremendous concern of lost wages onto her already scary fight ahead. Scarlet is scrappy and an optimistic survivor. She is 43 years old and is in good spirits, but this is going to be an extremely difficult year for our friend. We're hoping to make it a little easier for her with a little help from her friends!
