Scared to Choke

Synopsis:

A final-year photography student struggles with allowing the world to perceive her work. Throughout the course of one night, Phoebe searches for her best friend, Jade, to try to talk to her one last time before her final exhibit, which happens to be taking place the next morning. In her search, Phoebe experiences many odd encounters-- intercut with the remnants of previous conversations and her own own work, Phoebe's paranoia and anxiety are challenged.

Director's Statement:

Hello World,

My name is Rosy Vinod (writer, director, producer, DP for this project) and I'm a filmmaker from Allentown, PA. I currently attend Muhlenberg College and am a sophomore, double majoring in Media & Communications and Business Administration. I have a diverse range of production experience– from writing/directing my own shorts, to script supervising for other student films, to being a field producer. I am currently a film fellow on a feature documentary, and a member of the No Evil Eye Cinema Film Futura collective.

Ever since I was young I've dreamed of becoming a director and producer, and SCARED TO CHOKE is my attempt at breaking through the barriers to take a step toward that vision. This film is incredibly personal since I've struggled with my own fears of creation and expression, stemming from perfectionism, which I know many people can relate to. This film is important to me, not only because it is a healing experience, but because I feel many artists can benefit from seeing their anxieties dispelled on screen.

SCARED TO CHOKE cannot be made by myself, alone. This is the most ambitious project I've ever made, and it holds many moving parts, each part unique in its own financial needs. From needing to rent and purchase equipment, location fees, craft services, and various other production and post-production fees, I am humbly requesting your help to make this film come to life. Desire Suarez (Lead Role - Phoebe):
