OUR STORY
Who We Are We are the Scales Club at Austin High School, a student-operated reptile and small mammal rescue dedicated to giving neglected, abandoned, or surrendered animals a second chance. Our mission is simple: Rescue. Rehabilitate. Rehome. We focus on improving animal welfare while educating students in proper animal care and inspiring future veterinarians and animal-care professionals. Our Impact Since our founding in 2023, we have rescued around 24 animals, many of which have found permanent homes with responsible and caring members. Our club has grown into one of the largest active student organizations at Austin High, and we are currently on track to become an official class. We also proudly work with:
Teachers, providing classroom pets and care support
The Special Education department, offering animal visits and enrichment
The local reptile and small mammal community
Veterinary clinics and pet stores who guide and support our students
Why We Need Funds
As our rescue grows, so do the needs of the animals we care for. Donations will go directly toward:
Upgrading and enlarging enclosures Better UVB, heating, and lighting systems Storage for food, bedding, and supplies Medical supplies and emergency veterinary care Safe transport crates and temporary housing Filing fees and required paperwork to become a 501(c)(3) nonprofit Becoming a nonprofit will allow us to: Receive grants Accept tax-deductible donations Expand our rescue capacity Improve long-term stability for the animals we care for
How You Help
Your support directly improves the lives of the animals in our rescue and strengthens a student-led program that teaches responsibility, compassion, and hands-on animal-care skills.
Thank you for helping us build a better future for our furry and scaly friends!
