As you may or may not know, my father has had quite a few brain tumors. They are benign meningioma tumors that have been very aggressive. They have affected his everyday life, including his vision and his walking. These types of tumors are generally slow growing and once removed, rarely come back. However, his keep on coming back and the doctors are stumped as to why. He has gone through two brain surgeries, three gamma knife radiation surgeries, and 33 radiation treatments. He also had a mass removed from his lower spine this past December 2014. Needless to say, he has been through a lot. He always manages to keep a positive outlook on his situation though, even at the hardest times. He was going to Roswell once a month to get a sandostatin shot to hopefully slow/stop the growth of the tumors. He was set to start another 5 weeks of radiation again, when they came across a study that was being done in NYC at Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital. We are hopeful that this study will work for him to decrease the size of his tumors and hopefully get rid of them for good, as they are not in a good spot for another surgery. With that being said, in order for him to participate in this study, my mother and him must go to New York City once per month in order to check his progress. Traveling back and forth will get expensive and I want to do my part to try to offset some of their cost. They truly are the BEST parents in the world and deserve everything good in life.
