I’m just going to get real with you guys: my entire life I have been at war with mental illness and cognitive difficulties. My diagnosis remains murky but it is clearly a combination of ADD and a mood disorder. My difficulties have limited me in every aspect of my life. I have lost decades to depression, anxiety, and dissociation. My cognitive impairment has made holding down a job and pursuing an education extremely challenging, the only reason I am employed to this day is that I work for an extremely understanding company and they have always believed in my potential. Things have gotten a little better and then worse and then better again in recent years, medications have helped stabilize me but it’s clear that I need to take a more aggressive approach if I’m ever going to improve. The reason I am crowdfunding is that I found a very promising treatment that uses functional brain imaging as a tool for diagnosis. I have always wanted to look at my brain this way, I have employed other tools like MRIs in the past but I feel like this is the missing piece. I know times are hard so definitely don’t donate if it would be a burden to you, but if you’re in a position to help I will always remember your kindness and I will return the favor when I have the means.
