I have ask many of you to pray for sweet Lofton many times and I am so thankful for each prayer that was lifted up to God. Now I am asking for your help in a different way. So I will give you a little background about Lofton and his family
In August 2014 Lofton was hospitalized at Vandy and was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis and since this time his family has been told that this was due to the Enterovirus D68. This condition has caused him to have polio type symptoms. They were told recently that you have a better chance winning the lottery then your child contracting this medical condition. Since he was diagnosed with this he has been through months of therapy, many MRI's, and has bravely completed nerve testing. This condition has effected his left shoulder and arm. Each time he has had the nerve testing done, it revealed that his nerves were not firing like they should be. He has traveled to The Shriners Hospital and to John Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore. His family has traveled many miles to try and find the best doctors who can provide the best care for their son .
Now this Monday they will be traveling to Baltimore so that Lofton can have surgery on Tuesday 4-21-15. A doctor there will perform surgery to support his shoulder. This surgery is necessary because without the support of his shoulder it will start effecting his spinal column. Then there may be more surgeries necessary for a nerve transplant. As you can see he will have a long road to recovery but this is a new beginning for him. The surgery on Tuesday will take 6 hrs and he will be in the hospital for at least 3-4 days, with the family knowing they will be home no earlier than May 4th.
So I have said all this hoping to give each of you the background of this sweet family. At this time I am asking if you can help this family financially it would mean so much. They are looking at the expense of the hotel stay, money for transportation , money for food, and most of all money for the cost of medical treatment. This family has medical insurance which is a blessing, but as we are finding out it will not cover for the majority of his medical needs. The insurance will stop paying for his physical therapy visits due to a limit on our policy at work, Lofton has to have this therapy to continue to improve each day and this will be a huge cost to his family. He will continue to need therapy for unknown period of time.
This family has been faced with so much and the future is still unknown but they continue to place their hope and faith in our Lord. Please know this was such a hard decision for this family to ask for your help and to let you know the needs they are facing. As always if you are not able to donate financially, please know your prayers are always a blessing to them. Your prayers have been constant and know that this has given them the strength to face each day. I know God teaches us to ask for what we need and to come to Him asking for what we need, so I am coming asking for help on behalf of this family.
Lofton has been such a blessing to so many and I know God has a plan for him and will use this sweet boy for great things in the future. Please pray for what God would have you to do. Please always know how grateful this family is for everything you can do for them and for all the kindness that has already been done for them. Once again I want to say that your prayers for Lofton are the most important thing we could ask you to do for him.
Thank you so much for every act of kindness you have done for this family. #Loftonstrong
