Hey ! My name is Kofi Yeboah , and I'm a photographer and videographer based in Toronto, Ontario . I've been a professional content creator for two years, and I'm very proud to say that this profession is fulfilling and rewarding. When I started learning photography and videography, I struggled to found it hard to see representation on some platforms; as a black man, I found it hard to find people teaching the craft that looked like me on Youtube, Instagram , Facebook and other platforms on social media. When I started learning, I felt less and less that this craft was "for me" because I didn't see a lot of creatives of colour. Not only to I want to contribute to this, but I also want to inspire the next generation of photographers and videographers that might not have been able to afford the resources to get started.
There are a lot of organizations to support the black community , and I wanted to create my own that was unique to me. The 'Black Stories Matter' initiative is made to give aspiring black creators , and black owned businesses suffering due to covid-19 to give them the tools they need to create content for their businesses , and tell their story.
I made a goal in 2020 to donate 5 cameras to these individuals and businesses in order to get people started in their creative journeys , but didn't have the resources before . How recipients will be picked will be chosen from community nomination: send an email to [email redacted] if you know a black aspiring creator or a business that could benefit from creating social content to help promote their business.
Your support will help the purchase of cameras , memory cards, delivery , and other camera accessories that would get somebody started with photography and videography. I will also be putting some proceeds towards this goal from booked photo/video shoots, prints and other digital products you can find on www.kythecreative.com . I would like to thank everyone in advanced ! I'll be updating everyone on recipients and which camera we end up getting and you're all a part of this process !
