Say NO to Coal in Bundaberg

We need to ALL say No to Coal in Bundaberg. Firstly, it is URGENT we write to the Minister for Resources, Scott Stewart MP. Secondly, help us grow our presence as an Action Group in and around Bundaberg, PLEASE DONATE.

Bundaberg Region, postcode 4670, contains one of Australia's most well-established and well-known food bowls. It is a leader in agricultural innovation and technology.

Macadamia nuts, sugarcane, small crops, flowers, fruits and vegetables are here.

We are abundant in wildlife, including birds, bees, fish and frogs. We have Bundaberg Rum and Bundaberg Brewed Drinks, wineries and tourism. We are between two significant river systems and at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef.

We want Coral – Not Coal,

Crops – Not Coal,

Clear Air – Not polluted air,

Clean Water – Not contaminated water.

Here's what is happening and why we are fighting.

Three years ago, mining exploration company Fox Resources applied for a Mineral Development Licence, MDL 3040. The Minister for Resources, Scott Stewart, rejected their initial application in October 2022. However, Fox appealed the Minister's decision in the Supreme Court and won, thereby reactivating MDL 3040.

This Mineral Development Licence is a preliminary step toward establishing an operational underground coal mine 11km northwest of Bundaberg. A mine Fox Resources says could be just seven years away.

Minister Scott Stewart MP is reassessing Fox's Application. His final decision is expected in July.

The government classifies part of the Wide Bay Region as a "Priority Agricultural Area", yet a coal mine that will devastate food production and local livelihoods is allowed in a PAA.

If approved, the proposed mining operations would have significant and possibly irreversible impacts on our community, local ecosystems, and the agricultural sector that many rely on.
