Further update,
So, the company who want to add to the pollution they already generate on their waste site, are going to appeal!
They are however, appealing by " the back door" hoping we wouldn't notice if they did it by written application to ensure only their views are heard fully. Already working with the council to put a plan together.
Back to the David and Goliath fight I.e. Big company, small, village. Yet again profits before people.
Save Rockcliffe — Say No to a Toxic Future
Rockcliffe is — and should remain — a haven.
Our village is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), a European site of natural beauty, and home to the River Eden — one of only six tidal rivers in Britain. It’s a sanctuary of wildlife, clean air, farming and close-knit community.
But now, it’s under threat.
A convicted waste site operator — with a history of permit breaches, environmental destruction, and even a five-week-long asbestos fire — is now attempting to force through a gasification plant with a towering 73-foot chimney.
This would:
⚠️ Pump toxic emissions into our air
Endanger our children — with a school just steps away
Poison wildlife and damage farmland
️ Seep toxins into the food chain
For two years, we fought this battle — and we won.
But the waste site operator refuses to stop. He has announced he will appea the decision, and the fight has started all over again.
We are facing a legal battle expected to cost over £100,000. Without urgent help, we risk losing everything we’ve fought for.
Donations will help cover:
⚖️ Legal representation
Expert environmental consultants
Planning appeals
️ Community action efforts
We are just one village — but what happens here could happen anywhere.
When our children ask us,
“What did you do to stop them?”
we want to be able to answer:
“Everything we could.”
Please stand with Rockcliffe.
Donate today to protect our air, our health, our wildlife, and our future.
Together, we can stop this toxic invasion.
N.B. If there is any surplus money we will use it to fight other potential Toxic fights.
