On the 14th January 2024, I will be shaving my head to raise money to the Australian Gynaecological Cancer Foundation.
Kayla was the brighest, kindest and most loving human I have ever met. Her courage and strength throughout her short fight with Vulva Cancer is something that will inspire me to push on and through diffcult times for many years to come. Kayla was always fundraising for important causes, especially Telethon where over almost 17 years, she rasied over $15,000. It's our turn to raise money in her name.
Vulva Cancer is not common. It mostly affects women who have gone through menopause, however, like we have witnessed, it can also occur in younger women. It is estimated that more than 400 people were diagnosed with vulva cancer in 2023. The average age of diagnosis is 69 years old. There is no current national screening program in Australia.
After almost a year since she left us, I have decided to shave my head to raise awareness and raise funds to aid in the research of rare cancers like Kaylas, so no one has to go through what she went through. This is something I promised myself I would do if Kayla passed, and anyone that has known me long enough, knows I have never had "short hair".
Please donate as much as you are able to fund important research into rare Gynaecological cancers.
