Saxon Shore Way challenge for Parkinson’s
Donation protected
I’m Jackie and I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2018.
I firmly believe that exercise is as important as medication in managing this condition. Research has shown that exercise can delay progression and keep symptoms under control and this has definitely been my experience.
Exercise routines specifically aimed at people living with Parkinson’s, delivered by a qualified, neurological physiotherapist come at a cost not everyone can afford.
We are fortunate to have a therapist with these skills working in Ashford available to support local people.
There is also a weekend residential programme called Fighting Fit being delivered by Parkinson’s UK at the University of Canterbury this September.
The weekend focuses not only on exercise classes but also includes talks and workshops aimed at improving the quality of life with Parkinson’s.
Again this may not be affordable for some people and we would like to help.
I am going to try to walk the Saxon Shore Way over the month of April to try to raise some funds to support anyone struggling financially to access these opportunities which can significantly improve their symptoms, mental health and ability to cope with life with Parkinson’s.
The walk covers 163 miles from Gravesend to Hastings and I hope to be joined by various friends along the way.
I would be extremely grateful for any donations no matter how small which you may be able or willing to give.
Thank you.
