I'm Renee Lynch, the director of Saxapahaw Village Kids Preschool located along the banks of the Haw River in the small, but mighty, community of Saxapahaw, NC. Our small, nonprofit preschool program follows an emergent learning model inspired by the work of educators in Reggio Emilia, Italy with an emphasis on experiences in nature and play-based learning. We work to provide an inclusive, caring environment that celebrates our students as individuals. You can learn more about us at www.saxapahawvillagekids.com !
In July, our community, and our school specifically, suffered severe flooding from the heavy rains generated by Tropical Storm Chantal. Our preschool classrooms were four foot deep in contaminated flood water causing severe damage to our spaces, materials, and more importantly the building itself. We've had to make the very difficult decision to close our program temporarily while the building is being rebuilt. We are hopeful to be back into our space by January 2026.
As a small nonprofit, we depend on tuition from families every month to stay afloat. During this closure, we will lose all sources of income as our team works to navigate the rebuild process. We are asking for donations to keep our program afloat during this difficult time. Any small amount can make a difference, and we are grateful for continued support through these challenges.
We are looking forward to the rainbow that will surely come after the rains - the time when we are back in our classrooms learning, laughing, and exploring again with our students!
With gratitude,
Renee
