Sawyer surgery round 2

Hey friends! So, ugh. Here we go again. As many of you know, my sweet grandbaby, Sawyer Joseph Becker, was born with Craniosynostosis, which means his skull was fused together where he should have had a soft spot He had neurosurgery on his skull in Iowa City when he was 3 months old to create a soft spot. He had a follow up check up in Iowa City about 2 wks ago, and it really did not go as anticipated. Sawyer had a CT scan which confirmed that both of his coronal sutures on the sides of his head were fused. These should not fuse until the age of 24.

Sawyer will be having surgery again on Thursday, 9/15. This surgery will definitely be more complicated than his first. They will he opening him up ear to ear. Honestly, the thought of it just breaks my heart. Not only will they be opening the 2 fused sutures, they will use some bone removed to add to the soft spot created previously as the bone there doesn't seem to be growing like it should. They also discovered that he is farsighted, which is common with craniosynostosis, so glasses have been ordered.

Looking at him, you would never, ever guess that he has so many things going on. He is such a happy & content baby. He is growing & learning, trying to crawl, & just popped his first tooth.

So many friends have asked if there is anything that they can do. I REALLY hesitated to set up a go fund me & it took some convincing with Jordyn & Brandon, as SO many friends and family were incredibly generous to them when Sawyer had his 1st surgery & we will all forever be grateful for that generosity. But of course, no one expected or ever dreamed that he would need surgery again 4 short months later.

First, we would like to ask for prayers for Sawyer, his mommy, daddy, grandparents, aunts and uncles that all love him so very much. We ask for prayers for the surgeons and nurses.

Sawyer will be in the hospital at least 5 nights. Jordyn does have FMLA thru her work, however, it is not paid time off. They have already made numerous trips to Iowa City & will be in the future. There are so many expenses that come along with this, from gas to hotels, to meals, medical bills and loss of income.

If you would like to help out Jordyn & Brandon financially, they will appreciate your generosity so very much. If you will pray for Sawyer, especially on Thursday, 9/15 we would be so very grateful.
