Our friend Macleod Sawyer has recently had a strenuous medical emergency. Spending several days in the hospital he was diagnosed with an esophageal tear. Following surgery it was discovered he had fluid in his chest cavity along with a secondary infection. With his absence from work, this puts a great strain on his family. I have started this GoFundMe, in hopes of supporting their family during this difficult time. "He had a tear in his esophagus that no one knew about. It was a small tear, but was leaking air/gas/liquids into his chest cavity, causing immense, crippling pain. This created a bacterial infection, which, in turn, irritated the sack around the heart. So, the tear turned into an infection which turned into pericarditis. The cherry on top of it all is pneumonia in his left lung. They went in and repaired the tear. They started fighting the infection with antibiotics.They put in a PICC line so he could get nutrients. Antibiotics weren't doing working well enough, so they took him down to install a tube to drain the fluid. That wasn't draining fast enough for the doctors liking, so he had surgery today (1/30) to get the fluid out so they can start to attack the infection harder. He has been moved to the cardiac surgical unit for recovery. So far nine days in the hospital, and is expected to be in there for at least another 5-7 days." Statement from the Father Tom.
