Erica and John Sawyer are a hard-working, kind, caring couple who would help anyone whenever they could. They’re in a horrible situation right now and they could use help from their community.
These hardships come from no fault of their own, and it’s a very difficult combination of tragic events that has backed them into a corner.
This is an opportunity for the community to give back to this great family. We can help ease their financial burden.
From Erica:
John and I were attacked by a 700lb sow this July. We both sustained injuries, but the worst was John's thumb on his dominant hand was nearly severed off. After 2 months with no sign of bone growth, the doctors were going to amputate on Halloween. We decided to get a second opinion, where the orthopedic surgeon chose to operate and pin the bones. Upon opening the finger, he found small blades of grass and some other debris that had been preventing the bones from healing. He cleaned everything out, installed 2 pins, and we are happy to see visible bone growth in the most recent x-rays. Going on 6 months out of work, our financial situation has become strained immensely. Then on December 14th, our daughter's 3-year-old dog, Lia, jumped while playing outside and broke her tibia and fibula bones in her leg. The first visit was shy of $1000, surgery is estimated at $3500, and all follow-up treatments and appointments will likely add up to at least another $1000. We could not put her down and have our daughter lose a second dog just before Christmas (4 years ago we lost our year-old dog, Bear, on Christmas Eve). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
