Sav Souza's Top Surgery Fund

Hello friends!

My name is Sav Souza and I am a proud transgender, non-binary, queer, theatre-maker and performer. My life has been a bumpy journey of self discovery and identity development, and I am so pleased to share that I have made the wonderfully exciting and equally terrifying decision to undergo Top Surgery.  If you would like to help, please continue reading to learn more!

THE SURGERY:

What is Top Surgery?

The Process-
Picking a surgeon for your Top Surgery, is a large part of the process. After consultations, discussions, and tons of research, I landed on Dr. Charles Garramone. Dr. Garramone has been a leader of education about gender affirmation surgery in the surgical field, creating dialogue around it long before it became the much more widely discussed and performed procedure it is today, and he even has his own patented version of the surgery. One of the biggest reasons I went with Dr. Garramone, aside from the incredible results he very consistently has, was that he performs Non-Binary Top Surgery. There is really nothing different about the procedure itself, but most surgeons only refer to it as Female to Male Top Surgery-  in my case, that's simply not what it is! If I’m going to be getting a procedure to affirm my Non-Binary identity, I want to be getting it from a surgeon who understands and gives voice to my identity in the process. If you would like to learn more about Dr. Garramone, his technique, and Non-Binary Top Surgery in general, follow this link! https://drgarramone.com/nonbinary/

THE RECOVERY:

In getting surgery from Dr. Garramone, it is required that I travel to his practice in Davie, Florida and stay at least a week post-op. After my surgery, I will be placed in a compression vest with drains collecting fluid build up inside my chest. It is important that I take that week to do practically nothing but rest, let my body do the most crucial part of the healing process. I will then have a one week post-op appointment, where I will finally get to see my chest outside of the vest and have my drains removed. For a successful recovery, it is essential that I do not do any extraneous movement, heavy lifting, and my arms will essentially have to live at my sides for two to three weeks post operation. Thanks in advance to everyone who will brush my teeth, wash my hair, and click the "still watching" button on Netflix for me during this part of the process.

BYE, BYE BOOBIES:

To prepare for this mentally, emotionally, and financially, I’ve decided to throw a goodbye party for my boobs. A meditation on the past, the present, and what the future holds, all in effort of helping me raise the $16,000 I need for my Top Surgery procedure. On August 10th, 2019, I hope you’ll join me as I begin to say goodbye to what never belonged.

Part cabaret, part celebration, and 100% queer; through song, tears, and guest appearances from my queerest confidants, I will reflect the past & celebrate what lies in the future ahead. The evening will be directed by John Jarboe and music directed by Pax Ressler, featuring performances by myself and many beloved members of the Philadelphia theater and LGBTQ+ communities. Join me in saying goodbye, and together let's imagine what a future of euphoria and liberation might look like.

More information about Bye, Bye Boobies will be released in the coming weeks. Follow @saaaavv on Instagram and Twitter to stay up to date!

For me to raise $16,000, I need your help. You can donate, share the link with family and friends, and attend or offer a hand with Bye, Bye, Boobies. Time after time our communities are what carry us through the most challenging parts of our lives. I am eternally grateful to the communities I am a part of that have carried me through so much growth in my life, and I thank you for supporting me through this latest (and maybe my biggest) venture yet.

With the biggest heart and so much gratitude,

Sav Souza
