Our buddy Yukon is a 2 year old Alaskan Malamute.
He is a therapy dog for local nursing homes and most recently Northwest Community Hospital.
My co-workers and I first met Yukon as a puppy when our customer-now friend Freddie would bring him in. I've never met a puppy with a more loving and gentle disposition. There is just something special about him. He touches the lives of so many people and helps bring a smile to anyone he meets. He also has a younger puppy sister Clarice who does therapy dog duties as well.
Recently our gentle giant was diagnosed with lymphoma and he has an inoperable tumor in his bowels. All who know him have been devasted by the news.
His owner Freddie understanding there wasn't much the doctors could do, still proceeded to take him to a specialist for another opinion. The doctor there agreed as well that surgery was too risky. He did on the other hand have a very promising alternative, chemotherapy.
I know what you are thinking... chemo for a dog, really? Well, this specialist has said that due to his young age and extra large size, the effects of chemo would be very mild (no hair loss and possibly lethargic the day after treatment). The doctor said the type of chemotherapy they would use is directed towards this type of cancer and he thinks it would cure him. Freddie & his wife have now made the decision to start taking him for treatment. He will go once a week for eight weeks for treatment, and then once a week every other week for another eight treatments.Yukon will be receiving treatment from Purdue's Veterinary Speciality Center. It is one of the best veterinary specialist facilities in the country.
Knowing the extreme costs of veterinary bills and anticipating the additional costs of lab work, medicine and travel we have started this fundraising page to help our friend.
Yukon has done so much for our community in a such a short period of time and we feel it is time to do something to show our appreciation.
Please help him win his fight for life so he can get back to doing what he does so well, lifting the spirits of those in need.
I will keep updating the page with notes and pictures throughout Yukon's journey.
Thank you in advance this means the world to Yukon and everyone who knows him.
