Two weeks ago, a location in the San Bernadino Valley was raided and more than two hundred dogs were taken to the Devore Shelter. According to the shelter, this is the most dogs it has ever had. This case is being called one of the largest hoarding cases in Southern California.
The capacity of this shelter is less than 100 dogs. Due to the number of dogs seized during this raid each of the kennels has 6-15 dogs each including many large breed dogs. Many of the dogs are extremely underweight and have been seriously neglected. The dogs are heavily matted and in desperate need of a good grooming and veterinary care.
Saving SPOT! is trying to raise funds for two purposes.
1. $3,500 so we can transport our current rescues to another rescue out of state that has room in order to make space here more dogs.
2. $8,500 to care for 20-30 dogs from the Devore shelter who need grooming, spay/neuter, vaccines, microchips, medication, good food, and lots of TLC. All of the dogs we have rescued to date have severe kennel cough, need a lot of socialization and are heavily matted. More than 25 of the dogs seized are pregnant females who are too far along to terminate their pregnancies. Saving SPOT would like to be able to take at lest 3-5 of these pregnant mothers and help them wean their puppies and ultimately find them all forever loving homes.
Thanks to your generous donations, we have already taken 9 dogs from Devore. If we can rerach our fundraising goal we will take even more. AS you can see from Annie's (our first Devore baby) pictures below these dogs have been seriously neglected and need a lot of help.
Any donation will help to fund this big job. Even $15 pays for one vaccination for a dog.
Here are some pictures of the first dog we took from Devore, Annie, a 2 year old Shih Tzu:
