My name is Ralynne and I am Sheldon Riggs' baby sister. My family and I are reaching out on his behalf to raise the funds needed to perform surgery to remove a tumor that was found a couple of weeks ago. It has gone untreated for some time now and is growing rapidly. The money raised will go directly to the down payment required for him to receive this operation.
My brother has been self employed, and does not have any health insurance. To even perform this operation, he must have health insurance, or he has to put down a minimum deposit of $15,000. After the surgery is performed, they require another $15,000. The hospital informed my mother that the estimated cost of the entire stay would be $77,000-$95,000....not including the procedure. It is heartbreaking to us that my brother's life is at stake, and they won't perform the operation needed to save his life without a desposit. My brother has applied for state insurance, but the amount of time it will take to be approved is unknown. Every day that goes by without the operation being done is another day the cancer can progress and the chances of him surviving go down. We do not have the ability within my family to come up with the full amount ourselves, but if we can at least raise the $15,000 down payment by this Monday, July 18th, my brother can have the tumor removed on Tuesday July 19th. He is on the surgery list and the doctor is extremely anxious to remove the tumor. His pain will be reduced significantly, and his chances for surviving will go up immensely.
Sheldon is only 33 years old. He is my big brother, my hero, and friend. Many know and love him for his fun-loving and goofy nature, and his amazing ability to accomplish anything he puts his mind to. I know he has much more life to live and many more people to inspire and lift. He has faced and overcome so much adversity in his life, and he is a fighter. I do not doubt he will overcome this as well, but he needs a fighting chance!
My family and I cannot put into words our gratitude to you for any help you are able to offer. We can't possibly express how much this means to us when he is our brother, our son, our friend, and uncle. We know it is in our Heavenly Father's hands, but we also know that we needto do everything we possibly can to help save his precious life.
