For the past three years, Blue Tree Cafe has been more than a restaurant—it has been a ministry of health, hope, and healing.
My name is Chef Sharon, founder of Blue Tree Cafe, located in the historic Sistrunk community of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In January 2023, I made the courageous decision to transition our restaurant to a 100% plant-based menu after witnessing firsthand the health challenges facing so many families in our community. Too often, healthy food is either unavailable or unaffordable for the very people who need it most.
Alongside my daughter, actress and comedian Nika King, known to many as Leslie Bennett on HBO’s Euphoria, we’ve made it our mission to show that healthy living isn’t a luxury—it’s a right. Through Blue Tree Cafe and our community outreach efforts, we’ve worked to make nourishing, plant-based meals accessible to families throughout South Florida.
When we opened our doors in September 2022—on my birthday—we dreamed of creating a place where anyone, regardless of income, could experience delicious food that supports their health and well-being. By God’s grace, we are now approaching our third anniversary.
But today, we face one of our greatest challenges.
The rising cost of food, rent, utilities, and operating expenses has placed an enormous burden on small, independently owned businesses like ours. Despite these challenges, we remain committed to keeping our prices affordable because we believe healthy food should never be reserved for the wealthy.
We are launching this GoFundMe to help sustain Blue Tree Cafe during this critical season. Your support will help us cover operating expenses, purchase ingredients, retain staff, and continue serving a community that depends on us for healthy food options.
Every donation, no matter the amount, helps us continue this mission.
When you support Blue Tree Cafe, you’re not just helping a restaurant survive. You’re helping provide access to healthier food choices, supporting a Black family-owned business, and investing in a vision that puts community before profit.
Thank you for believing in us, praying for us, and standing with us.
With gratitude,
Chef Sharon & Nika King
