Saving Two Mares/Foals from Slaughter
Donation protected
We now have a wonderful rescue with a stellar reputation, Serenity Farm Equine Sanctuary, willing to take both sets of mare/foals in if we can cover their bail. We are working to raise $1750 to cover bail and fees for both sets of mares/foals, then we will surrender them over to Serenity Farm Equine Sanctuary. Even if you can only donate $5... every dollar will count to help us to meet our goal of $1750 and get these 4 to safety.
The backstory: My niece came across two pairs of mare/foals with a kill/meat dealer in VA. They came from Iowa with a load of cattle. I’m in contact with the dealer who is willing to release them for $850 a pair (+$51 in fees). If we can’t help them, their fate is grim; he will either stick the mares on the next slaughter truck with room on it or take them all to an auction in AL where they will likely remain in the slaughter pipeline. The foals are both colts. The palomino mare is 14 and unsound. The Appaloosa mare is 5 and sound. All were treated with antibiotics upon arrival to this dealer. Mares have recent negative Coggins. Quarter horses.
