Saving the Prime Angus Cattle of Koerner Ranch
Donation protected
I am asking your help to raise money to try and restore a mistreated cattle herd on a ranch in South Dakota which has been exploited by an unscrupulous stockman. Let me tell you the story.
Koerner Ranch has been part of my friend JoEllen and her husband Denny's family for 5 generations. The family has worked to breed a strong and healthy Prime Angus herd to help feed America. It is the quintessential American Ranch.
Weather extremes…alternate flooding and drought, have made significant hardships for farmers and cattle ranchers in SD over the past few years. Stockman are the lifeblood of the cattle ranching. They are kinsmen, each supporting the other as weather, feed and grazing land shifts in productivity from one side of the state or the other. When one is dishonest - human and bovine lives - are devastated.
The photo you see is malnourished cattle which were taken by a neighbor of a cattle rancher who promised to care for the healthy beautiful Angus from Koerner Ranch, providing much needed food and services to continue to tend the beautiful animals. Instead he put them in fields with little feed or water for several months, creating severe malnutrition of the animals.
When JoEllen and Denny found out, first they were devastated for the animals, Then they immediately made arrangements to bring the starving cows home to try and restore them to better health. With the feed and pasture shortage in East River, winter weather coming, and the herd being so mistreated by the stockman, the cost of saving this herd and their ranch will cost tens of thousands of dollars. It will require an extraordinary commitment against these odds so late in the year. Denny and his son are true ranchers and the cows are a calling - not a job for them.

From these beautiful healthy cows .....
..... to this starving animal due to the neglect of a trusted industry professional who had vowed to provide care on his West River ranch. The pain of starvation is real even to cattle.
Please help JoEllen and Denny save the herd and Koerner Ranch. Even a few dollars will improve the odds that these abused animals will be able to recover.
Thank you!
