A year ago, our world lost its light when our mom passed away. Since then, our dad has been fighting a silent, exhausted battle undergoing grueling rounds of chemo and radiation to stay here with us. He finished his treatment, but the toll hasn’t just been physical. At 73 years old, our dad should be resting and reflecting on a life of hard work. Instead, he is still working just to keep his head above water. Every penny of their retirement money, the security they built together over a lifetime has already been poured into the house payments to try and save our home. But now, even that is at its end. While he was fighting for his life, the medical bills and the inability to work took everything else. Now, he is facing the loss of the house all the grandkids grew up in. This isn't just a building with four walls. This is the last place my mom’s presence still lingers. Her favorite chair is in the living room; her touch is in the garden; her laughter is in the hallways where we grew up. For my dad, losing this house feels like losing her all over again. After fighting so hard to survive cancer, he shouldn't have to spend his 70s fighting to keep his home. We are reaching out to our community to help us bridge the gap. Your donations will go directly toward the mortgage arrears and property taxes to stop the foreclosure process. Even if you can’t donate, please share his story. We just want Dad to be able to wake up in the home he built with Mom, in the place where he feels most at peace.
