Help Us Keep Hope (and Our Sanctuary) Alive
Hi everyone, I’m Tricia — and together with my best human friend forever (BHFF ) Misty and her fiancé, we live on five acres that have become a sanctuary for the forgotten.
Right now, this land is home to over 20 cats, 4 dogs, 4 horses (two of them fosters), a snake, and three humans doing everything in our power to keep this safe haven alive.
Before COVID, Misty worked tirelessly to establish a 501(c)(3) nonprofit sanctuary. Her dream was simple: to give every unwanted, injured, or abandoned animal a second chance. For years, we poured every bit of ourselves into making that dream real. But now, we’re barely holding on.
The property is old and constantly breaking — from rotted floors and damaged walls to a second bathroom that’s been out of commission for months. Prices for feed, food, and vet care have skyrocketed. We’ve both drained our savings just trying to keep everyone cared for. There are days when we skip meals so the animals never have to.
Still, we keep going — because we can’t not.
Outside the sanctuary, we also work in animal rescue, and we see the heartbreak daily. The overflowing shelters. The scared, shaking animals no one can take. The ones labeled “too much work” or “too expensive.” That’s why we take in the critical ones — the neonate kittens, the injured, the hopeless cases.
Like Salt and Pepper — our first neonates this year.
They arrived with their umbilical cords still attached, both with infected back legs and open, oozing wounds on their feet. They were so tiny, cold, and weak we weren’t sure they’d survive the night.
But when Misty picked them up for the first time, she made the same promise she makes to every newborn that comes through our doors:
“I’ll fight as long as you fight.”
And they did. Through every two-hour feeding. Through infections, diarrhea, sleepless nights, and the fear that each breath might be their last. Against all odds, they fought.
Now, five months later, Salt and Pepper are healthy, inseparable, and full of life — purring, playful reminders that love and fight do matter.
They’re the reason we keep going. Even when it feels impossible.
Every dollar donated helps us keep saving lives like theirs:
• Urgent property repairs (floors, walls, and a working bathroom)
• Food, medical care, and supplies for our cats, dogs, and horses
• Neonate kitten equipment, formula, and medications
• ❤️ A small cushion so we can eat and stay strong enough to keep doing this work
We’re not asking for luxury — just for a lifeline.
If you can give, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
If you can’t, please share our story.
Because somewhere out there, another Salt and Pepper is waiting — and with your help, we’ll be ready to fight for them, too.
— Tricia & Misty
