Todd Clear is fighting for his life. An E.R. visit in mid 2020 revealed cirrhosis of the liver, which rapidly declined to complete liver failure at the young age of 52. He was recently informed by his healthcare team to “get his affairs in order” after learning that he could live as long as 2 years, and as little as 3 months. Todd lost his job after a down-sizing secondary to COVID and has exhausted his resources in finding work. Adding insult to injury, he is unable to secure healthcare coverage and has been repeatedly denied for MEDICAID. COBRA insurance exceeds $1,000 per month, and he continues to reapply to SRS, MEDICAID, and Obamacare. He is unable to get insurance coverage, and his current medical bills are accumulating at an astonishing rate, well into 6 figures. Todd needs to get to the Cleveland Clinic and get on the list for a Liver Transplant. But with or without the transplant, the medical costs continue to soar.
His brothers in Christ from St. Joseph Parish in Sylvania, Ohio would like to tell his story and ask for your help.
Todd Clear, affectionately referred to as “T.C.” by his friends and family, is a 1987 alumnus of Toledo St. Francis DeSales, a 1992 graduate of Lourdes University, and a fiercely loyal buckeye fan! He is a devoted husband to his wife and High School Sweetheart, Sarah (Lavey) of 28 years and loving father to his 4 children and his pride and joy, 4 year old granddaughter… “Boo-boo”. The son of a retired Toledo police officer, T.C. hails from a family of 5 boys, and was a former multi-sport star at St. Francis with a bright future in college athletics. After a serious knee injury derailed his athletic opportunity, he used his education to help him become a star as a Logistics Specialist in the Tier 1 Automotive world. Todd was at the top of his game and remains highly respected in his field.
There is nothing more important to Todd than faith, family and friendship. Todd and Sarah were always the first ones to jump in and help their friends and families any time there was a crisis, always instrumental in helping to find resolutions and to offer aid to those in need. And now… T.C. is the one who needs us. And you!
Todd spent many years coaching multiple youth sports in CYO because it was so important to him to be a coach and a mentor to young people. And his giving spirit made him a reliable fixture when the church needed volunteers for fundraisers and the annual parish festival over the past 20 years.
Todd met us, his brothers in Christ, on team 37, while taking part in a parish retreat called Christ Renews His Parish, or “CRHP”. His commitment to multiple retreats and his testimonies were a beacon of light for many men who were struggling with their faith. The example he set helped many men find their way through difficult times and toward spiritual renewal. The continued support of prayers from so many have helped Todd and his family get through a very difficult time in their lives, but their journey is growing more and more difficult. The strong faith that they all have leads them to surrender to this illness… at the foot of the cross.
Although his faith is being tested, he is doing his best to stay strong. Our team of brothers are committed to help see him through this crisis, but we need to reach out to the community because now Todd is the one who needs help.
100% of the donations received will go directly to Todd and his family to help with medical expenses. Please help us save T.C.
