Saving Susan Crowe

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Mary. I am raising $ for medical transportation, rehabilitation & recovery for our friend Susan Crowe. Susan and I have been in the ICU at Baylor Saint Luke’s - Texas Heart Institute since April 21, 2023. We came here from Bloomington Normal, Illinois for Susan to receive life saving surgeries for a congenital heart defect she was diagnosed with last November.

Susan is on the Autism Spectrum and since her parents died 20 years ago, has lived independently. There was never any question about me accompanying her here. She requires an advocate especially now!!! No one should have to navigate a health crisis alone. Being someone like Susan’s “person” is an honor and a privilege. She has a light that outshines everyone else’s!

Last fall - Susan was diagnosed with Double Aortic Arch with Atretic Left Aortic Arch (DAA) a congenital heart defect accounting for less than 1% of heart defects. Even rarer, the average age of those diagnosed with this condition is age 1.4 years old.Susan at age 43, is among only a handful of adults to survive undiagnosed and untreated. Basically instead of one aorta Susan had 2 and they wrapped around the back of her trache and esophagus. Instead of leaning right, they leaned left. As a result of living with DAA her entire life., Susan had developed a number of aneurysms as well as circulatory anomalies and her prognosis (without surgical intervention) was very bleak. Without surgery she was given 2 years (or so) to live. Most were surprised she had lived this long.

Now, She is TOTALLY ALIVE! With the expectation that she will live a long full life. She is playing on her tablet, watching Anne of Green Gables, FaceTiming with friends and doing her crosswords!!! I am so very grateful our friend is alive! Now, I need to get our friend the care she needs to recover.

Months after being ready to go to a rehab facility - we find ourselves still trapped in the ICU unable to return home to our friends and family - simply because we can not afford the medical transport to do so. The entire state of Texas will not accept her medical insurance so, returning to Illinois is the only option.

All money raised will go directly to Susans Medical Transportation and Recovery.

Can you help me get my friend home?
