The school principle, Josiah, received a visit from the Minister of Education, threatening to shut down the school unless we rebuild the classrooms, by January. This is because there was a classroom in Kenya that collapsed not long ago, killing 8 students.
The government has already closed 100 schools, and there is no plan B for our kids. If the school were to be shut down, most of the 450 students would be left without an education. We believe education is the most powerful tool in which to get kids out of the slum, and out of the cycle of poverty.
Only 40% of kids in the slum attend school. Disease and starvation are all too real. The school provides hope, and allows these kids to dream beyond the slum, and achievethe impossible.
We are hoping to raise $30,000 AUD, which will allow us to fully rebuild the classrooms.
Any support you are able to give will go directly to our building fund, to keep our school open. $50 or $100 would be a great contribution to the building fund. $500 would fund the interior fit-out of a whole classroom. $2,500 would fund the rebuild of a whole classroom. All donors of over $300 will receive a copy of our coffee table book, comprised of stories and photos of Kibera, and the school. The book is expected to be published in December.
All funds will be withdrawn from Go Fund Me and used directly to purchase the building materials and labour to carry out the project. We are hopeful that if we can raise the money and rebuild the classrooms, then we can keep our school open, and continue to improve and grow over the next few years.
We thank you for your support.
Nice Coffee Co team.
