Saving Sophie - DCT Therapy

Donation protected
Would you just stand and watch? I hope so! (Here's why...)

Imagine the scene - Sophie, my Bestie since our kids were young, has fallen from the quayside into the thrashing waves. She is hanging on to a rock for dear life, fearing that if she loses her grip she will be swept away. I can’t reach her; Lord knows I am trying. The fear in her eyes is killing me.

You happen to be passing. Do you help? Or do you stand by and watch?

Sophie has Breast Cancer. She is one of the lucky ones. She has had the cancer removed and has been offered chemotherapy, radiotherapy and hormone therapy. The Consultant has used the words “cure” and “preventative” – flipping brilliant because too many people never hear those words when going through cancer treatment. She knows many others would swap places with her in a heartbeat. But, the treatment will take its toll on her body, and she is scared.

Sophie has learned of an alternative treatment that can not only achieve a better outcome without the dreadful side effects but can also minimise the effects of preventative treatment. This treatment is called DCT therapy , it works differently and is personalised to her body and her disease. Effectively boosting her immune system to learn how to defeat the cancer itself. But it is not available on the NHS.

Sophie had her operation on 25th Jan and is waiting for the NHS to assign her to an oncologist who will organise chemotherapy. She has been waiting weeks and given her cancer is grade 3 and aggressive, understandably the wait is excruciating.

DCT Therapy will be quick and will keep her this side of the fragile line between cure and palliative care. She is prepared to pay for it herself. She has some savings and, if necessary, she will put any shortfall on credit cards etc just to get it done. But, she is on her own (financially), she is self-employed, and she is taking a great financial risk.

As DCT specialists are still building empirical research evidence the more people that go down this pathway the better for all of us. One day, this revolutionary treatment may transform how we combat cancer. For you, your kids, their kids.

Now, let me take you back to that scene. What if the person standing next to me is not you but the NHS. You, and any others that stood to watch, are crowdfunders. The NHS will reach Sophie, but there are many hoops to jump though before they get to her. There is no telling if Sophie will hold on long enough before being swept away. The Crowdfunders could form a human chain and reach Sophie quickly, bringing her to safety.

Are you willing to be part of the human chain? If so, I am glad you stood watching and didn’t walk on by.

I am aiming to raise £15K to help Sophie manage the costs of her treatment. Any small donation would be HUGELY appreciated!

Thank you.
