SAVING SNOWDOG
We are a Sleddog Kennel based north of the Arctic Circle in Lapland, Sweden
In the past 9 months, life at Snowdog has been a challenge, with over 60 Alaskan and Siberian Huskies to feed and 4 dedicated volunteers, electricity to pay, vet bills, fuel, food, repairs and maintenance the only thing which is free is Love.
Our fantastic staff from various parts of the world give selflessly their time, love, expertise & compassion, without them we would have perished months ago.
Costs to look after these fabulous animals and all the other sundries surpass well over 8,000 euros a month. I myself took a day job all summer in groundwork construction to pay everything and fight to keep the boat afloat, with winter now upon us, our running costs for food, electricity etc. increase accordingly.
We keep all our dogs until the end of their natural life and most of the “old-timers” end up on the sofa in one of our humble cabins, some dogs who don’t take to dog sledging we rehome to well-vetted pet homes as we feel it is a better way for a dog who is not comfortable in a Sleddog environment. We don’t push our dogs too much and we always seek medical attention if we feel it is required. They are well-loved, cared for, looked after and fed the best dog meat on the market to our knowledge. We do what we do because we love dogs, it incidentally became a business and we have received much joy working with the dogs every single day and given much joy to animal lovers across the world. However with bookings down more than 95% and no winter work available for me until around May, we have fallen upon critically hard times.
I live in hope that we will battle through this crisis but I fear time is running short for us, which is why as a last resort I look to the world for support and backing to help us see brighter days.
