Saving Sherri's Sugar!

Donación protegida
Hi!
We are raising money for our beloved friend, Sherri Stratton. All of you who know Sherri know the person I do, a generous, caring, loving and incredibly loyal friend. Those who know her will also know she has been battling type 1 diabetes since the age of 6. She has never let it slow her down or affect her, dominating the Rugby pitch and living life to the fullest, with her friends and family. Over the Christmas holidays, 2019, Sherri had a bad accident leading to diabetic complications and 5 days in the intensive care unit. Here is her story:

"Everyone who knows me, knows that I have had type 1 juvenile diabetes since the age of 6. It’s a shitty hand that life’s dealt me, but I’ve always managed to roll with the punches. At age 9, I became the youngest person in Quebec go on an insulin pump. This was life changing for me as a kid and gave me more freedom to live my life normally. Now I wish I could say that I continued to exemplify being a perfect diabetic, but let’s face it, we all know this is far from true (understatement of the year). As a teenager and young adult I’d sometimes refer to myself as ‘the worst diabetic in the world’. I really believed that I could do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. False.
This year, after a bad accident involving my shoulder, the trauma sent me into a spiral of ketoacidosis, a known complication of diabetes that can only be compared with blood poisoning (I strongly suggest googling ketoacidosis for a better understanding of this hell), which led to a 5 day stay in the ICU during Christmas. This is basically when I decided I’d had enough, 2019 was going to be my year where I turned things around. After consulting with my new doctor, he suggested that I go on a new diabetic pump that’s right off the market. A pump that will control my glucose levels without me programming it, so no more lows or highs during my sleep, and all around an improved lifestyle.
All good here, except for the cost. It’s 10,000$ US, and although some of that is covered by my insurance, the part that isn’t is still way out of my budget. That being said, my mom, dad, my hometown of stanstead and the stanstead legion have graciously set up this fundraiser to help me with the costs (Bless you All). Over the years, my friends and family have helped me out with the countless fundraisers I’ve done for athletics, it feels hardly fair to ask you to come out on my behalf again, but here I am."

So let's all come together once again to help Sherri, but this time to help her personal quality of life, instead of helping her help yet another selfless cause. After everything she has done for less fortunate people over the years, the very least we can do is something to help our dear friend!
