I’ve always been an animal lover, and wished to own my own dog from the moment I could form a thought. Well at the age of 12 that day finally came. One day, my mom told me to get ready. She drove us out to Dorothy O'Conner, a pet adoption place. She told me whichever dog I wanted, we would buy right then and there. I didn’t believe her, mainly because I couldn’t believe we had the money to pull off such a purchase.

I sat in a visiting room with a few dogs. None really stuck to me until one. They called him Baloo, a Great Pyrenees mixed with a Beagle. He greeted me with a hug. They told us he was given to them by his owners who had him since he was born, with no real reason. He had barely turned 1. There wasn’t much to him; his frame was small, timid, awkward almost. He looked like every other dog, but he was the only dog that I could see the rest of my life with. Fast forward to now, after changing that silly name to “Savior” and after the countless chewing outs he has heard from me due to his love for getting into the trash, his alarming consumption of chocolate due to being unsupervised (he ended up being fine each time), and near attacks on the mailman, he has become the man of the house and our hearts. Everyone who has had the pleasure to let him get to know them has found that beyond the intimidating bark, he’s just a big attention-seeking baby. Even at his 10-year-old age, he has been my baby boy since the age of 12. I am now 21, and almost a year ago, I noticed a small bump in his right shoulder. I went to get it looked at as soon as possible. The vet only explained it as a ball full of blood and cells, that maybe he pinched something from the inside and it welled up. He was confident it was nothing serious and to watch it, and within months it should go away. Many months passed, and I became a college student along with working almost full-time hours as a server. As of now, it has grown from a ping pong ball size to the size of a softball. Every day I look at him and feel like a terrible dog mom. Each day I fear is grows and recently I noticed his skin has turned dark in the area which has cause me to be even more alarmed. He doesn’t act uncomfortable or in pain, but his spark is gone. Animals can’t speak and rely on us to care for them, but as of now, I can’t do that, at least not alone. There’s so much I need and want to do. His surgery tops it all, but unfortunately, it is a big one to check off the list. I will be moving out of my mom’s soon due to personal reasons and will have even more on my plate. The truth is, I don’t have the money to pay my own bills, help my mom’s bills, and save up for an apartment and his surgery. I don’t know if it has grown into a cyst, tumor, or cancer, but the sooner I can afford for him to get looked at, the sooner I will know. I have gotten a quote; $1,200 is the highest it should go. Unfortunately they don’t offer payment plans which has put me more at a stump. Due to credit that I am currently rebuilding, I do not qualify for pet insurance, so besides the money I can spare, this is my only hope to quickly get him the treatment he needs as soon as possible
please help me bring my boy back
