Saving Sarah: Stage IV Colorectal Cancer
Donation protected
Sarah Helene Davis Adams, undoubtedly the smartest and funniest person in any room you’re lucky enough to share with her!
In March of 2022, while awaiting a heart transplant for her 2-month-old son at the University of Virginia, Sarah was diagnosed with Stage IV rectal cancer, with metastasis to her lungs and liver. Sarah has quietly and humbly endured countless scans, chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy trials and surgeries over the last year. The odds have been against her from the beginning, survival rates after receiving this kind of diagnosis are grim, but in true Sarah fashion she has remained steadfast in her will to survive despite the odds against her. Unfortunately, her most recent scan shows progression of cancer in her body, despite the treatments offered locally.
Mike and Sarah got married in 2019, soon after they welcomed their first-born baby boy, Everett Burke! He was and continues to be what dreams are made of, a perfect healthy baby boy. He’s a “threenager” now, spunky, fueled by cheese and still completely adored! Mike, Sarah and Everett’s lives changed when they found they were adding to their family. After a scary and high-risk pregnancy, perfectly imperfect Owen Maynard arrived on January 7, 2022. Owen was born with an exceptionally rare heart condition. In the first weeks of his life, he suffered a stroke, seizures, cardiac arrest and multiple rounds of ECMO. Ultimately, Owen’s only chance for survival was a new heart. Roughly one month after Owen was placed on the pediatric heart transplant list, Sarah received more devastating news. She had STAGE IV CANCER.
Miraculously, Owen received the ultimate gift on May 10th, 2022 and after 305 days in the hospital; Mike, Sarah and Everett got to take their baby home! Owen’s future is bright, albeit not without significant medical challenges. Everett and Owen need their Mommy. Mike needs his wife.
Not only is Sarah a wife and mother but she’s is also the firstborn to Calvin and Polly, big sister to Molly and Nell, and our beautiful, kind, loving, funny, strong and generous best friend-to name a few. We need her, too!
The medical bills accrued for Owen and now compounded by Sarah’s diagnosis, along with her need to travel in order to seek progressive treatments /consults/2nd and 3rd opinions has become insurmountable without your help! Please consider donating in order to support Sarah and her family’s fight for her life!
