From the Streets of Bali to a Chance at Life: The Story of Patch, Princess, Sleepy, Bella & Cupcake ✨
I found them when they were just a few hours old — five tiny souls, born on the streets of Bali in the parking in front of my accommodation, umbilical cords still attached. On the first night, there were four… and the next morning, there were five.
Their mama, a young and exhausted street dog, had given birth in hiding. She was overwhelmed, unsure, left them to themselves quite early and would only come back when I brought food, and would sit with her while she was nursing.
The first few weeks, I spent 2-3 hours every single day gently encouraging her to breastfeed. Stroking her, feeding her, whispering encouragement, holding the weakest pups to her nipples when they were too tired to latch on. Those first 2 weeks was a fight for their survival.
And somehow they all made it.
For the past 8 weeks, I’ve watched Patch, Princess, Sleepy, Bella, and Cupcake grow from tiny helpless bundles into playful, curious little toddlers. They’ve been vaccinated, loved, and one by one, I found beautiful adoptive homes — including a group of teenage girls who convinced their parents to take one in.
Each pup went home with a care package — food, vitamins, a blanket.
Now, we’ve reached the final steps:
1. Spaying their mama — so this doesn’t happen again.
2. Providing the puppies’ second core vaccinations — vital protection against parvo, distemper, and other deadly diseases.
3. Sending a little food support to their new families, who have so much love but few resources.
In Bali, the odds are cruel. Most street puppies don’t survive. It’s estimated that over 70% of pups die before 6 months — from disease, malnutrition, or accidents. But these five had a different fate. They had someone who didn’t look away.
I’ve already spent over 500 euros out of pocket, with another roughly 200 euros coming my way. Now, I’m asking for your help to cross the finish line and make a change for the better together.
Really any amount that you can give, even 5 dollars as it will feed a pup for a week.
Any funds raised beyond the fundraiser goal will go to @balidogassociation — the only local organization who actually offered to help me if I couldn’t find homes. There was another local supporter (@leeyshaonggex66), who kindly shared all my stories.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for being someone who helps change the story — not just for these pups, but for Bali’s animals.
With love and gratitude,
Kati
