This kitty was rescued by a friend by the side of the road yesterday. He was overheated, bleeding and clearly in distress from apparently being hit. She tried to get the shelter in the area to come and help but they couldn't find her so she gathered him up, got his mouth wet and got him carefully in the car with AC and back here to the emergency vet last night. They told her if she did not take responsibility that he would be taken to the shelter and that they would not do the surgery that he needs on his legs if he was surrendered, but instead would be put to sleep. So she signed as responsible.
The verdict is that he has two fractured legs (ulnar and femoral) and one might require amputation. All other tests look good and no microchip. As of Monday, she will owe about $1400 which would include a surgical consult. The needed surgery is currently estimated at $6000-7000 as of now. They think he is older than 3, less than 7. Unfortunately, she cannot afford this surgery to give this sweet boy a chance.
The kitty, now being called Opal is beautiful! The vet says he is behaving as if he has likely been owned but has been out in the wild for awhile. It feels like this guy is supposed to have a chance so I'm helping to see what can be done to get him to a good life. We have been reaching out all day to organizations and starting this campaign was highly recommended by Project Purr and the vet. Please help us, to help Opal have a chance!
