Due to circumstances entirely beyond his control, Jamie O’Donoghue has been forced to close his Elm Grove pub, reduced to doing carry-out food and beer sales. O’Donoghue’s Irish Pub was a thriving business and the very heart of the Elm Grove and surrounding communities’ social life. The pub’s annual income relies very heavily on two days: St. Patrick’s day and Memorial day. The timing of the public fear and statewide lockdown could not have been more destructive for O’Donoghue’s – coinciding with St. Patrick’s Day, and with severe restrictions certain to remain in place, particularly for restaurants and bars, beyond Memorial Day. Further impacting the pub is the cancellation of the Elm Grove Memorial Day parade.
Revenue lost by restaurants and bars is impossible to recover, and the financial impact is most severe for establishments like OD’s which do a significant portion of their sales at the bar. Without significant support that goes far beyond the relief packages being passed in Congress, O’Donoghue’s Irish Pub will be at risk.
When restrictions on public gathering are lifted, they will not be lifted entirely and restaurants and bars will be among the establishments that will be required to endure continued, forced reduction of business.
Therefore, as a loyal patron of OD’s, if you have been fortunate enough to retain your job and general financial stability, we are appealing to you to help Jamie defray some of his losses and hopefully stabilize OD’s for the future so that we all have a place to gather when this global pandemic is declared over.
This initiative was NOT started by Jamie – in fact, it took a lot of convincing before he agreed to let us try this. He is humbled by the effort and will be eternally grateful for any help that is offered.
Thank you for your consideration and your generosity!
God Bless
