Saving mowgli

We are trying to raise money to cover the vet costs for our boy Mowgli who almost lost his life to an undiagnosed condition. Fibrinolytic syndrome is a rare disease in greyhounds where only 30% of greys will have this syndrome but there are no tests that show the dog will have it!!! The condition is where the blood clots but then the body breaks it down so the clot never forms properly which then would stop the bleeding. Mowgli is a 10year old boy who has gone through so much in his life, he is a ex racing hound and was 1 of 5 greyhounds who was rehomed by the greyhound trust in dudley from his trainer (trainer has become to ill to care for them). He had to have all his teeth removed as they were rotten, they left his 2 bottom k9 teeth as they are growing into his jaw, his top k9s were remove but this has caused him to have a hole in his mouth, which can not be fixed or covered. He is loving life again as he is now gaining weight and learning what love and comfort is. He adores his bean bag and will sleep in there all day and grumble if anyone dares to disturb his comfort. But it wasnt over for him, the worst was yet to come for our poor boy. Unfortually he had a bit of an accident and ended up with a small cut in this hole where the k9 tooth was, he was so unlucky it has caught the main artery that runs through the top of his mouth. At the time we didnt know it was the artery we took him up to our local out of hours vet. We were there for hours trying to help the vet stop the bleeding, it wouldnt slow down or clot. In the end they had to put him under general as mowgli was becoming more stressed. They were hoping to be able to control the bleeding better, unfortually he bleed for 17hours!! At this point we thought we were going to loose our beloved boy. I rang deb and craig from the greyhound trust to see if thet knew anything else or any vets to help. In the end we transfered mowgli to Swinfen Vets (this was the best decission we have ever made!) He looked so ill, tired and warn out from his horrible experience. Don the vet from swinfen was shocked he was still alive after all those hours of bleeding! He got straight to putting him under general so he could see what was happening. He told us it was fibrinolytic syndrome. So he rushed to give him acid and cool his body temp with cooling blankets and ice. He managed to stop the bleeding!! We took our other dog fliss to be a blood donor for him as he lost so much blood, after the transfusion he slowly warmed mowgli up to see if it had worked for him. And the mircle was done he was fully awake with no more bleeding. He kept him over night to keep and eye on him and rang me to tell me my boy is coming home!!! I couldnt believe it at all! I generally thought he wasnt going to make it. He is such a strong boy he faught through everything to make sure he would come home to his bean bag! I cant thank deb, craig and don enough! They have saved my boy! I am eternally grateful and i cant express how much it means to me and my partner! Were so lucky that we have met these amazing people who have helped us out so much. Thank you from me and my beautiful boy mowgli xx
