If you know me, chances are you've spent time with Meeko Leloo. I rarely go anywhere without him. Meeko is my # 1, my right hand, my sweet baby boy. He is a people lover, and I'm pretty sure he thinks of himself as a human. He is a sensitive, playful, majestic, and a sweet-hearted fur baby. He loves to hike and swim, enjoys all of the attention, sprints towards you if he hears you biting into a carrot, and is the best at Shavasana (if you've ever taken yoga with him, you know).

Meeko has been diagnosed with a cancerous tumor on his lower right gum. The tumor has been removed twice, but to ensure that it doesn’t ever grow back, the surgeon would like to remove part of the bone where cancer cells reside.

After his two surgeries, his CT scan, chest scan...etc, I am having to turn to our community for support. Anything helps and is endlessly appreciated. In March of 2022 I saw a small lump on Meeko’s lower gum. For a couple of days I was convinced it was just swollen from vigorously chewing on a toy or bone. After about a week, I realized it was growing. I took him to the vet on March 29th and had the mass removed. The vet told me that after removing it, she suspected it was benign and shouldn't grow back. Just a few weeks later, the lump did begin to grow back. In June, I had it removed for the second time. This time I ordered a biopsy. On June 20th, I received the biopsy results, and it informed me that the mass was cancerous and would continue to try to grow back unless completely removed (meaning the bone where the mass is sprouting from).

I met with an oncologist and received a CT and chest scan on July 5th. The Oncologist went over the CT and chest scan with me and assured me that Meeko is in above-average shape and should live a long and healthy life once ridding him of this cancer. She referred me to a dental surgeon specializing in cases like Meeko’s.

After Removing a slice of Meeko’s jaw bone, the tumor will have very little-to-no chance of ever growing back. So it is the best option for him.

Meeko has been with me for over seven years. He has been the one constant in my life. Meeko dragged me out of a dark stage, reminding me that I could survive and find joy in life again. He is truly an angel, here to heal with his dopey smile and ice blue eyes. We’ve been everywhere together. He is my baby, my best friend, and my life. He is a part of me. The sweetest boy. I can't imagine life without him.
