Help Marley, My First Dog, Fight Cushing’s Disease & Adrenal Tumour

Hi, my name is Rosie, and this is my beloved dog, Marley.

Marley was born in 2013. He was my very first dog, and I bought him from the Cocker Spaniel breeders where I worked for two years. Nobody wanted him because he was the biggest in the litter and he was going to be sent to a pet shop—but I couldn’t let that happen. From the moment I brought him home, he has been my companion, my joy, and my family.

Recently, Marley was diagnosed with a tumor on his adrenal gland, causing Cushing’s disease. Over the past few months, he has developed alarming symptoms: he drinks much more water than usual, can’t hold his urine, urinates huge amounts, has lost muscle mass, and his fur is thinning. Watching him struggle is heartbreaking.

We don’t know if the tumor is cancerous, and without surgery we can never be certain. However, surgery is far too risky, as the tumor is located next to a major artery, and we are not taking the chance of Marley dying on the operating table. The only way to manage his condition safely is through medication for his cortisol levels.

In addition, Marley receives monthly Librella injections to help with his severe arthritis in his back legs, which he was diagnosed with at just 4 years old. As he’s gotten older, simple activities like getting onto the settee or climbing stairs have become very difficult, so the Librella treatment is essential to keep him mobile, comfortable, and happy. I have been covering the €86 per month for Librella for years already, but these extra costs for his Cushing’s treatment are a lot for me to manage.

• Initial scan to diagnose the tumor: €589

• Medication for Cushing’s (monthly treatment): €1,872 per year

• Required blood tests throughout the year: €1,312

Total estimated cost for one year of treatment: €3,773

(This total does not include his monthly Librella injections for arthritis, which are €86 per month and which I continue to pay separately.)

Covering these costs on my own is extremely difficult, but Marley has been my faithful friend for over a decade, and I want to give him the best chance to live comfortably and happily.
