Sweet Lulu went to see our team at Milwaukee Vet Clinic this past Friday after her foster to adopt family expressed some concerns with her limping and being sensitive with her lower back. We decided to proceed
with X-Rays and they found concerning abnormalities associated with her 5th lumbar vertebra (lower back). The vets suspect that Lulu has spondylitis, or infection of the vertebra itself. This is usually a bacterial infection. Occasionally blastomycosis can infect bone and can't be ruled out at the moment, but bacterial infection would be the bigger suspicion. She could also have a liver shunt.
We are going to proceed with blood work for Lulu this upcoming Monday to investigate the suspected liver shunt and ultimately determine the best route of treatment for Lulu.
As a small non-profit ran by just 3 women full time and volunteer based, we have limited financial resources and we suspect that all of this is going to be very costly, on top of managing the other dogs we currently have in our rescue. The amount needed is uncertain at this time, but we feel that the $3,000 goal will at least give us some relief.
Focusing on our local pitbull type dogs comes with a heavy amount of expensive medical treatments due to the various levels of neglect, abuse and backyard breeding many of these dogs suffer from at the hands of humans in our community.
Thank you so much for your support and donations as we navigate Lulu’s medical issues. We love and appreciate each one of you. We are also extremely grateful for the veterinarians at Milwaukee Vet Clinic.
