Saving Lives in Myanmar: Urgent Earthquake Relief

Dear friends,

My name is Phyo Pyae Thida Htwe, also known as Sophia Htwe. I am originally from Mandalay, Myanmar (Burma) and I am currently living in Australia. I am a PhD candidate, researcher, and peacebuilder. Most importantly, I am a daughter, sister, and community member with deep ties to the people of central Myanmar.

On March 28, a powerful earthquake struck central Myanmar, especially the Mandalay and Sagaing regions. Many homes were destroyed or severely damaged. Communities have been left without clean water, food, shelter, or medical care. My hometown, Mandalay, was hit hard. My own family is among those now sleeping outdoors, too afraid to return home as aftershocks continue to shake the region.

This tragedy is deeply personal. I was born and raised in central Myanmar. The people affected are not strangers. They are my family, friends, and neighbours. I am committed to supporting them during this critical time.

That is why I am working closely with trusted local partners and community-based networks who are already on the ground and ready to deliver aid. Every dollar you donate will go directly toward emergency relief, including clean drinking water, nutritious food, essential medicine and oral rehydration salts, hygiene kits with soap, sanitary items and disinfectants, and basic shelter materials such as tarps, blankets, and mosquito nets.

We will prioritize those most at risk, including children, the elderly, and people with medical needs in affected villages and neighborhoods in Mandalay and Sagaing.

Your contribution will be used promptly and transparently by local organisations, especially those based in Mandalay and Sagaing, who understand where the needs are most urgent. I will personally coordinate and monitor the process to ensure your generosity reaches those who need it most.
