Saving Lives: Critical Care for Greek Stray Cats
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Elena, and my husband is Andrew. Together, we dedicate our time and efforts to giving stray cats in Athens a second chance at life. In 2020, we rescued our first litter of newborn kittens abandoned in a garbage bin. We adopted Simba and Noa and found homes for Mia and Kenny. That experience touched our hearts. Noa and Simba changed our lives. We can no longer walk past a stray kitty without inquiring about their well-being.
Since moving to Petralona in 2023, we’ve witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by stray cats. There are so many that, despite the best efforts of the community, even injured cats fall through the cracks, often due to a lack of resources. Inspired by the tireless efforts of Athens’ animal-loving community and the overwhelming burden they carry—exacerbated by the lack of an adequate response from the country's animal welfare services—we transformed our spare rooms into temporary rehabilitation areas, where injured, malnourished, or sick cats receive urgent treatment under the guidance of local veterinarians and an animal clinic. Over 50% of our rehabilitated cats have found their forever families in Greece, Cyprus, and Switzerland.
The funds we raise will be used to cover critical veterinary expenses for more cats—often ranging from 200 to 400 euros per animal - as well as to provide food, medication, meet travel requirements, and arrange for temporary foster care. Your support means more than just medical aid; it gives these vulnerable animals a chance at a longer, safer and healthier life. Thank you for joining us on this compassionate mission.
